Canadians Are Split On Their Workplace Expectations In 2022

In our last blog, we introduced the concept of hybrid work and discussed how adopting its model will be necessary for many businesses in 2022. Hybrid work, to reiterate, is a combination of working from home and working in the office. For companies all across North America, it has been a necessary action throughout the pandemic. By the looks of things, hybrid work will remain popular throughout the new year.

Half of Canadians expect to return to the office regularly in 2022.

As reported by Darrel Bricker of Ipsos, only half of Canadians who are currently working from home say they expect to return to the office regularly in 2022. The new Ipsos poll was conducted on behalf of Global News. It asked working Canadians about their experiences in 2021 and what their expectations and feelings were about 2022.

Bricker reports that 64% of working Canadians agree that they achieved a better work-life balance in 2021. As well, 88% of the respondents agree that they have enjoyed working from home more often in 2021. And while 58% agree that they miss being with their colleagues in person, only 44% agree that they want to return to the office on a regular basis in 2022.

Business owners need to focus on a combination of health and productivity.

Evidently, employers all throughout Canada will need to find ways to keep their employees both safe and productive in 2022. Naturally, it’s necessary to work towards stopping the spread of COVID-19. With the omicron variant running wild, cases are at an all-time high. Needless to say, many workers will need to continue to work from home in the new year. With MeloTel’s help, that can easily be achieved!

Many Canadians prefer working from home.

In an interview with Global News, Bricker expressed that working from home is no longer just a safety measure in Canada. It has become a preference.

“Part of it seems to be concern about safety, but an increasing part of it — and this is the really interesting finding here — is about a preference,” Bricker is quoted as saying, “It’s no longer about ‘I’m not going to go back to the office because I don’t think it’s safe.’ It’s ‘I’m not going to go back to the office because I feel like I actually prefer to work at home.’”
