You’re More Likely To Have Your Call Answered If It’s “Local”

First things first. We’d just like to point out that our hometown Toronto Raptors are looking pretty good as we begin the NBA Playoffs! Our beloved defending champions seem to be in the midst of sweeping the Brooklyn Nets in the first round. Please excuse us if we’re getting a little ahead of ourselves. We’re just excited to see the Raps playing so well in their quest to repeat at NBA Champions.

Our love for our hometown team can be compared to that of consumers and their adoration for local businesses. Are you a fan of working with local brands? According to Craig Borowski of Software Advice, his company survey found that people are four times more likely to answer their phones if the calls are coming from local numbers.

Calls from local area codes are more likely to be answered.

“Only 7 percent said they’re likely to answer a call from an unknown caller with a toll-free area code – but that number leaps to 27.5 percent when the unknown caller is using a local area code,” Borowski reports. He goes on to point out that 80 percent of the survey’s respondents said they would be “extremely unlikely” to answer call from unknown numbers.

Needless to say, it doesn’t pay for your business to hide itself from caller IDs. However, the following needs to be noted. Even if a caller is unknown, he/she is a lot more likely to have his/her call answered if it is from a local number. “Twenty-eight percent of those polled said they were either ‘somewhat’ or ‘extremely likely’ to answer calls from unknown callers with local area codes,” reveals Borowski of the survey’s findings.

He highlights the fact that this is a rate twice what his company found for other area codes. As well, Borowski reveals that the stat is nearly four times what was found for toll-free area codes. The bottom line, he contends, is that a strategy for getting people to answer the phone would be to showcase a local presence when calling.

How do you appear local if you’re calling leads outside of your own area code?

At MeloTel, we wouldn’t suggest you change your phone number. It’s a lot simpler than that. Just changing your area code to the local area code you’re calling will do the trick. It’s a small, yet effective change. It can work wonders in getting your proverbial foot through the door with potential customers.

And we can help you! MeloTel proudly offers Dynamic Caller ID Insertion. It’s an awesome new feature that enables you to utilize your DaFeeder Telemarketing service by adding DID (Direct Inward Dialing) phone numbers into your inventory. They can be used as possible caller IDs when making outbound calls.

When you assign numbers to your campaigns, your phone agents will display the corresponding caller IDs based on the area codes they are calling. Dynamic Caller ID Insertion will insert the area code that is being called into your phone number to be displayed on the recipient’s caller ID!
