This past Wednesday, we announced the winner of our “Cutest Pet Contest” on the MeloTel Facebook page and followed up with an official congratulatory blog yesterday. When we first announced the Facebook-exclusive contest a month ago, we honestly had no idea just how much fun and excitement it would generate. It was, by far, our most successful contest in company history.
The contest created some amazing engagement!
It required no one to make any purchases of any kind, but to simply like our Facebook page and upload a picture that displayed a loving moment between owner and pet. We received hundreds of entries! And although there could only be one winner, of course, we can tell that our contestants had a lot of fun sharing their photos of their beloved pets.
Gabe Arnold has it right. On BusinessMarketingEngine.com, he writes that if you post something interesting, people will contribute to the conversation and spread the word. “Look at your social media posts if you have them, and see if people are liking, commenting, tweeting and sharing your posts,” he recommends, “Even if they are doing all of those things, a social media contest will further increase the amount of customer engagement.”
The contest was our most successful one ever!
We must admit that we’ve launched contests in the past that didn’t have nearly as much traction as our recent “Cutest Pet Contest”. Sometimes, it really pays to think outside of the box and launch an engaging initiative that literally has nothing to do with your business. The end result is a much greater impression of your brand image. It’s safe to say that we have friends, fans and followers today that we didn’t have a month ago.
Without the “Cutest Pet Contest”, we were likely to have never met them via Facebook. As Aaron Lee correctly puts it on MaximizeSocialBusiness.com, running social media contests helps to build community. He points out that when contests are run effectively, they can build strong followings.
“People might not know about a brand or a business until they have heard about it after their family, friends and social cliques share them – and a contest would definitely help them do just that,” writes Lee, “Building a community is definitely a strong point to bring up when talking about the benefits of a contest. To think about it, businesses spend so much time building communities in their local neighbourhood.”
Thanks to everyone who entered our contest!
We’d like to take this opportunity to once again congratulate the winner of the “Cutest Pet Contest”, Shelly Patenaude and his dog, Harley! However, we’d also like to thank each and every person who took the time to like the MeloTel Facebook page and upload pictures of themselves with their pets. You helped to make this latest initiative of ours our most fun and most successful social media endeavour ever!
