What Can Business Owners Do To Actually Enjoy The Holidays?

First off, we would like to take this opportunity to remind you of MeloTel’s holiday hours, one last time. We’re open today until 6:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, as normal. Tomorrow, however, we will be closing at 2:00 p.m. EST in preparation for MeloTel’s annual Christmas party. It will be held tomorrow night at our usual spot and all-time favourite restaurant, David Duncan House in North York.

Here’s a reminder of our holiday schedule.

We will be open on Monday, December 23rd between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. EST. Then our team will be taking off the next three days which are Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day respectively. We will be back open on Friday, December 27th with our regular hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

MeloTel will also open on Monday, December 30th between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and then close for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. We will be back open for our first day of operations in 2020 on Thursday, January 2nd. All business hours will be back to normal at that point.

We hope that, like our team, you will be taking advantage of your time away from work to enjoy the holidays. We know that can be tough for most business owners to do. After all, your entrepreneurial spirit keeps you constantly thinking of ways to grow your business. However, during the holiday season, it’s really important to take some time away from work in order to rest and rejuvenate.

Allow yourself to chill.

Taking a break from work will help you escape the burnout you may be feeling from an entire year of working to make your business great. Don’t feel bad about enjoying the time away from the office. Utilize it as both an opportunity for well-needed fun and the ability to recharge so that the new year will be one when you can help your business to really take off.

“Don’t apologize for taking time to relax and enjoy food, drink, family and fun,” insists Nellie Akalp on Mashable.com, “A break gives our bodies and minds a chance to rebuild and refocus. You’ll come back in January with a fresh perspective, ready to take on more challenges and be more efficient than before.”

Shut off the smartphone.

We realize that, for most business owners, this is next to impossible. Because your smartphone can literally be your company’s lifeline – you’re able to conduct business with it in a myriad of ways – take at least a day or two to shut it off completely during your break. At the very least, set it aside for a specific number of hours during your holiday celebrations and devote your attention to your family and friends. You’ll thank yourself later.

In an Under30CEO.com piece about enjoying the holidays while still running your business, Tilted Pixel Inc. President, Matt Inglot advises business owners to never receive emails on their smartphones. “Instead, set up systems so that you are only contacted if there is a serious problem or need,” he instructs.
