Is Your Company Website In Need Of A Makeover?

If you’re looking to make a good impression – and who wouldn’t be? – it’s imperative that your online presence is a strong one. The problem with far too many entrepreneurs, however, is that they neglect their company websites in favour of handling their everyday business tasks. In truth, they can’t be blamed. Their expertise in is in their chosen fields, not web design. Nonetheless, there are many reasons to give a company website a makeover.

Is it hard on the eyes?

Not every web designer is a good web designer. Many use outdated features such as flash intros or even have poor grammar and spelling. Even the smallest of spelling errors can make a website look amateur and untrustworthy. If your site appears old-fashioned or simply just doesn’t look good, it’s time to redesign it.

“Given 15 minutes to consume content, two-thirds of people would rather read something beautifully designed than something plain,” says Danielle Duggan on BlueCorona.com, “When asked what they think the number one factor in deciding the credibility of a business is, 48 percent said it was the website’s design. An unattractive site can make your business look unprofessional and out of touch with modern buyers, and may cause a searcher to abandon your page.”

Is it inconsistent across different platforms?

If someone views your website from a PC, will it provide a similar experience when viewed on a tablet? If a visitor uses Google Chrome, will he/she find a different looking site if using Firefox? It’s important that your website provides a sense of consistency. That way, it will be easy for visitors to locate what they’re looking for no matter which device or web browser they use for web surfing.

“Consistency has always been key to creating an attractive, helpful and easy-to-use website,” insists Elizabeth Burnam on NewBreedMarketing.com, “To avoid confusing or frustrating users, ensure that the main components of a site, such as the navigation and the colour scheme, remain consistent across every page. This also includes consistency across browsers and device types.”

Is it not offering SEO?

Okay, so maybe your site is exquisitely designed. That’s excellent. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s going to help grow your business. In 2019, content is king. It’s important that your site is regularly updated with new content. That includes blogging, which ideally should be done no less than once a week. Fresh content greatly helps to generate higher rankings in search engines.

“You should be able to easily update the content on your site to keep it fresh and relevant, as well as be able to tweak pages for SEO purposes,” says Duggan, “If updating pages on your site has become a lengthy, complicated process, you’re valuable wasting time.”
