The entire MeloTel team is distraught over the circumstances that have taken place over the past week. Quite clearly, the entire continent is already contending with the coronavirus pandemic – an unprecedented situation that should have united all of us in the push for safety and optimum health. Sadly, our continent and, in fact, our planet is facing another crisis: racism, hatred and bigotry.
The tragic murder of Minneapolis, Minnesota’s George Floyd has set off an uprising the likes we haven’t seen in quite some time. MeloTel condemns the horrific actions of the former members of the Minneapolis Police Department who caused Mr. Floyd’s death. We offer our most sincere condolences to the Floyd family and everyone else who has been affected by this senseless tragedy.
We are fully aware that this incident is not isolated. Tragically, there have been far too many incidents of this nature. Collectively, they have caused the current uproar flooding news headlines, social media and our television screens. We are all hurting right now. This is why it’s so very important to unite in the name of love, peace, justice, unity and respect.
At MeloTel, we have long been proud of our history of having a very diverse staff.
Being headquartered in the wonderful city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada makes it easy. Our city is home to beautiful people who emanate from all over the world. Toronto’s multiculturalism is one of the city’s traits we are most proud of.
Our diverse population has given MeloTel the honour and privilege of growing a family that is made up of all walks of life. We humbly view our team as a symbol of what Canada, as a whole, stands for. We live in a fantastic nation that embraces differences and stands up against those who proclaim their hate for anyone who is different.
This is our message to the world.
Of course, MeloTel is far from the only example of multi-racial unity. But we implore everyone to remember all that is good about the fact we live in a society where so many different people exist. The current state of affairs is all about unifying people of all ethnicities in order to promote justice and equality.
With that said, we firmly stand against the idea that the destruction of property, vandalism, theft and further violence are means to bring about positive changes. We do, however, understand the plight of peaceful protesters. We applaud their willingness to sacrifice their time, energy and potentially their safety to fight for a better future for us all.
If you do choose to participate in a protest of any kind, we urge you to be safe and smart.
Do not forget that the coronavirus hasn’t magically disappeared. Wear a mask. Bring along water and snacks. Do not participate in any illegal action. And be sure not to go out all by yourself. Go with like-minded friends who will help to ensure the safety of all.
Finally, consider offering your support to the Floyd family who is deeply hurting right now. They have set up a GoFundMe account in George Floyd’s honour. This fund has been established to cover funeral and burial expenses, mental and grief counselling, lodging and travel for all court proceedings and to assist the Floyd family as they continue their pursuit for justice.
