Honouring Remembrance Day: Lest We Forget

Today, on November 11th, we pause to honour Remembrance Day. It’s a time to reflect on the courage, sacrifices and unwavering dedication of those who served in the Canadian Armed Forces and Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

We also honour those who continue to serve our country. To show our appreciation and love, we wear our poppies with pride. They are symbols of gratitude, remembrance and respect for the men and women who gave so much to protect our freedom.

Today, we reflect on the sacrifices that have been made for our nation.

Remembrance Day reminds us of all of the brave soldiers who fought on battlefields, endured hardships and put their lives on the line for the greater good. It is a day for communities across Canada and around the world to unite in silence at the eleventh hour, honouring their service and keeping their legacies alive.

As the Canadian War Museum clarifies, “Canadians recognize Remembrance Day, originally called Armistice Day, every 11 November at 11 a.m. It marks the end of hostilities during the First World War and an opportunity to recall all those who have served in the nation’s defence.”

The sacrifices of those who have served our country paved the way for the rights and privileges we cherish today. In remembering, we acknowledge not only the struggles and losses of the past but also our duty to uphold peace and protect the values they fought for.

For generations, Canadians have come together to mark this solemn day.

It is not merely a tradition. It is a collective vow that we will not forget the sacrifices made by the brave. From veterans of historic conflicts to the service members still in harm’s way today, our gratitude extends to all who serve with courage and dedication.

As business leaders, community members and fellow citizens, we recognize that we have been gifted with many freedoms. They allow us to grow, connect and innovate. These very freedoms are safeguarded by the sacrifices of our veterans and active military personnel. Today, we stand together to honour them, to teach future generations about their courage and to foster a lasting commitment to peace.

Today, the City of Toronto is holding numerous Remembrance Day ceremonies. Visit their website to locate the ones closest to you so that you may attend in person.

This Remembrance Day, take a moment to reflect and express gratitude.

Whether by observing a moment of silence, attending a commemorative ceremony, supporting veteran-focused charities or simply thanking those who served, every gesture matters. Wherever you are today, remember to remember at 11 a.m. You may want to set a reminder in your calendar or phone. Switch your phone to “do not disturb” and pause for just two minutes in memory of the fallen. It’s a simple action that means quite a lot.

At Melo Technology, we remain committed to supporting and remembering the sacrifices made by Canada’s veterans and their families. Today and every day, we strive to honour their memories and work towards a better, more united world.

Lest we forget.
