Are people interested in what you have to say in your blog? In many cases, it’s not the information that readers find unappealing. It’s the way in which your information is communicated. A strong blog is one that offers readers valuable tidbits, but does so in an engaging way. It can’t be overflowing with industry jargon that goes over the heads of most everyday people. The wording must be equal parts friendly, eloquent and fun!
At MeloTel, we’re very proud of our more-than-a-decade-long track record of providing thought-provoking and inspiring blogs to business websites all over North America. Of course, we’re also proud of the fact that our very own blog is one that highlights various examples of how blogs should be written. Might our team be able to help your website’s blog to improve?
Here are three signs your blog is in serious need of help:
1. Your titles are boring.
“How To Write A Good Blog” is a pretty direct way of explaining what this blog post is all about. It’s not, however, particularly original. Instead, we opted for “3 Signs Your Blog Is In Serious Need Of Help” to draw greater attention to the potential urgency required to fix your website’s blog section. Of course, the latter title is also somewhat of a tongue-in-cheek statement. The bottom line is that it is meant to be interesting enough to get online users to click on it and read on.
If your blog titles are of the run-of-the-mill, generic variety, the posts won’t garner much attention. Come up with more eye-catching titles to boost interest in your website’s blog posts.
2. Your blogs posts have no hyperlinks.
Is the information you’re presenting backed up by other industry experts? Quite often, the blogs we compose for our clients contain hyperlinks to other online articles in order to strengthen the various points being made. In addition, many of our own blogs contain hyperlinks that direct readers to other sections of our website.
By placing outbound links in blog posts, you demonstrate the validity of your argument. You also help to boost your site’s rankings in search engines. By placing inbound links in your blog posts, you assist readers in gaining more information about your brand and the goods and services it provides.
3. It’s filled with grammatical errors and spelling mistakes.
What is the problem with the following sentence? “If you would of hired us in the first place, you could of avoided that problem.” Do you see it? We can’t tell you how many times we’ve come across sentences just like this in blog posts all over the internet.
Professional writers and competent grammar experts are well aware that “would of” and “could of” are completely incorrect ways to write “would’ve” and “could’ve”. Of course, the alternatives would be “would have” and “could have”. A great blogger is one who is somewhat of a master of the English language. One of his/her duties is to make your blog (and, by proxy, your company) look good by using proper grammar and correct spelling.
